Art Exam
- Tools are a major focus in this class. Though many things can be completed by hand tools are often necessary. In creating artwork what type of tools have you used? In using these tools how did they help your work along? Explain their function and purpose. (Ex. Pottery Wheel, aviation snips, Clay rib)
2. How has your knowledge and understanding of tools changed since the beginning of the semester? Talk about your growth of understanding.
In the beginning of the semester I had never used these tools before, except for one time in Art 1. Throughout the semester I have been able to grow comfortable with the tools and in my understanding of the purpose and how to use these tools. My table mates were very creative in the way they used the tools and were a great help in helping me find unique ways to use them.
· What was your favorite material that you used this year? Why do you like working with it?My favorite material that I used this year was the clay. I love the feeling of it although it does make my hands dry. I love being to sculpt the clay into different shapes and forms, yet some forms are a bit more difficult to accomplish than others. I also enjoy being able to draw/carve different designs into the clay, it’s very interesting what can be made with just a simple slab of clay.
· Regardless of whether you liked or disliked a project, which one did you learn, grow, or developed the most from? Please explain.
I think I grew the most from the Sgraffito piece because it was a really unique project. I was able to learn a specific process in sculpture which, in my opinion, is a really cool one. The fact that you can take out pieces of the paint instead of having to carve the clay itself is a pretty fascinating concept to me.

· Describe a project where the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc helped enhance this project.
In my cardboard cutout project piece I had to decide what size I was going to make each unique design in the dress. The amount of room I gave each detail of the dress really made a difference in the end on how it turned out. I tried making the flutters of the dress almost all the same size yet differing just a bit to make it more unique and effortless. I had to make sure the pearls in the necklace were all the same size so that the final product of the necklace looked a bit more perfect than sloppy. Also, I used a different material for the chest, plastic bags, to make that section of the dress stand out more. All of these things helped enhance my project and make it look more amazing.

Sgraffito
- Explain the process? First you have to sculpt the clay into whatever shape you would like; whether it be a bowl or a tray or a vase etc. Then you paint the clay with black underglaze completely. You can being carving with a carving tool when the paint is not yet dried or when the paint is dried, up to you. Yet, I think the sculpted art would look better once the paint is dry. Then you put your piece in the kiln for it to be fired. Once fired, you take it out and dip it in white glaze to make it all shiny.
- What did you think of the sgraffito process? It was a very fun project which I enjoyed doing and I would love to do it again the future.
- How was your pieces successful and how might you change it if you were to do it again? I think my piece was successful when I carved the flowers and the leaves on the outside of the bowl. But I think the shape of the b owl itself could have been a little bit sharper and have a cleaner cut around the edges.
Paper Mache
1. How was your piece successful?
I was successfully able to put the paper mache newspaper pieces onto the wire.
2. What difficulties did you have with it? Was it the shape? Medium? Layers?
The shape was hard to sculpt because cutting the wire was difficult at times and then making it to bend the way you wanted to didn't quite work out all the time
3. Did you finish it? Why or why not?
I did not finish my rabbit's head because I didn't like the way the head stuck out in the back. I wasn't able to fold the pieces down so I went right ahead and just put the newspaper pieces on top anyways.

Tray Set
1. What is your tray set used for? How does your design make it used for that?
My tray can pretty much be used for anything from objects such as jewelry to food like snacks such as almonds or other nuts. There is no special layout so the way the tray is used has multiple options.
2. How did you come up with your idea?
I came up with my idea because I really like nature so I decided to lay leaves down and mold the outline of them into the clay. I really enjoyed doing that it was fun to work with the materials and shape them in that way.
3. Explain your process and materials.
I used a styrofoam tray to shape the clay. Then I used cooking spray to make sure the leaves stuck to the tray. Then I put the piece into the kiln, painted it using underglaze, and stuck it back into the kiln to make the piece look shiny.
