1. I think this was my most successful project because it got a lot of attention from the class. The theme or topic of this piece of artwork was to get inspiration or ideas from two different music genres. I chose pop and rock to display in this project. The process that I went through to complete this project was that first I had to sketch what I was going to cut, then I had to outline it with tracing paper until finally I could draw it on the black piece of paper. When getting my final sketch onto the final black piece of paper. I used a precise carving tool to cut out the shapes. Finally, I applied the black piece of paper to a white one and then I created this masterpiece. I think that the choice I made regarding subject, design and technique was beneficial to enhancing this project because I made sure to include many different details in order for it to not look dull and be able to pop. I don't think that more instruction was needed to be successful in this project except for you can see a sketch on both sides of the page so it doesn't matter which side you use face down. The instruction given was definitely enough to ensure success because I feel that that made me be very successful in this project.
2. This is one project where I felt that I was the least successful in. I think this project was my least successful project that I did in this class. I don't think I accomplished this project very well because my elephant seems kind of kid-ish. I feel like I could have made my elephant more realistic but I was just not really sure how to do it. I think getting more feedback from my teacher and classmates would have helped me better this piece. Something I would do differently is sketch a better picture of what I was going to carve. Although I don't think I did too well on this project, I think I definitely learned the most techniques. I learned how to carve a linoleum and how to use a gauging cutter. Also I was able to be introduced to what a bench hook was and how to be able to know when your paint is ready to be put on the linoleum. I learned what "burnishing" was, which is a technique in which you rub the paper in circles in hopes for the paint to spread evenly.
3. These two pieces of artwork are completely different yet when looking at the my body of work over the semester, I think that these two depict the most growth as an artist. I wouldn't think that someone who drew that first blind contour drawing would even be able to come close to painting a canvas as well as I did. From the first piece of art to the second, I used a lot more application of materials. As well as, learning more techniques and skills. In the canvas painting I was able to show an artistic vision, where the first one was dull and was not very expressive of anything other than the fact that it may have been an attempt at drawing a hand with closed eyes. The principles and elements in the contour drawing was to be able to examine the details in a hand and try to mimic it onto a piece of paper. The canvas painting shows how much more creative the span of difference is. The intuition and subject matter is a lot more perplex in the canvas painting than in the contour drawing because it holds more elements, designs, and ideas.
4. Not only do I think this is my most successful project this semester, I think that this is the best piece of artwork where the subject matter reflects me as an artist. I love listening to all kinds of music and I feel that this project helps bring out all those different genres through shapes. I think that this is one that I have the most personal connection to. I feel as if I did all the other projects just to accomplish them and get them done for the class. But along with being able to learn new techniques, such as printmaking and collage along with other types of art. The idea was to take French artist's, Henry Matisse's work, and be able to create one of my own. I love listening to music and it has the ability to put me in any type of mood no matter what kind I am listening to so that is why this project reflected me the most as an artist. My hard work in this project paid off because I really enjoy it and it gives me a sort of personal connection with the music theme.
5. My favorite medium to work with was with the oil pastels. In this project, I learned how to use oil pastels to create 3D shapes. I enjoyed working with oil pastels because I liked the texture that it gave to the piece of art and also it is very easy to create value. I created value by blending and overlapping the oil pastels together. Overlapping is important because it can create different shades of colors and eliminate a distinct line between two colors. The direction I made my light source coming from was around the left side of the shapes. This project thad taught me that value is important because it shows the whether the subject has volume or is flat, what kind of texture the surface has, and where the light source is located and how bright it is. So, the use of oil pastels was probably my favorite use of a medium this semester.
